- Hobart City Council is seeking the submissions on public access to the Battery Point foreshore.

Details of the proposals are available on the Hobart City Council website. They are inviting comment on three concepts, a foreshore scramble track, a path on top of a rock revetment and a narrow elevated boardwalk. None of these concept plans cater for cyclists, or adequately for families with strollers and wheel chair users.

You may be interested to review the Hobart Regional Arterial Bicycle Network which proposes a shared pathway linking the Intercity Cycleway through Salamanca to Marieville Esplanade. The concept of the a full width shared pathway for all the community to use forming the spine of arterial bicycle network from Claremont to Lower Sandy Bay is an attractive one.

Other things you may wish to consider if you make a submission is the tourist interest of such a scenic route, also the privacy, security and lighting concerns that those currently living along the foreshore may have if a full width shared pathway is constructed.

Many more details are available at the Cycling South website too, including dates of the two public information sessions.
