Volunteers Wanted at the Taste of Tasmania

Hobart City Council has invited Bicycle Tasmania to run a Valet Bicycle Parking Service at the Taste of Tasmania 28th Dec – 3rd Jan.

Hobart City Council is to be congratulated in planning and approving for this service that compliments other actions the Council is involved in to encourage greater cycle use in the city.

This initiative is also of course totally in tune with Bicycle Tasmania’s aims in promoting cycling for recreation and transport - what better way of combining those two uses than visiting the Taste of Tasmania by bike. Not only that but travelling by bike encourages you to be tempted by that second helping or extravagant dessert, as you know you are going to work it off on the way home.

This is a first for Tasmania – if it is a success it is likely that all major Hobart events will offer such parking as a matter of course.

So we need YOUR help to ensure this service is the best we can provide. If you are not going away over the New Year period and especially if you are considering visiting the Taste of Tasmania please help every cyclist in our community and offer to do a shift as a valet bicycle parking attendant. I can guarantee it will not be hard or stressful so it will be well in keeping with the holiday spirit of relaxation, socialising and eating too much!

Bicycle Tasmania will even treat you a Christmas/New Year drink.

Please pass this on to every one who may be interested in helping staff or using the valet bicycle parking.

Thank you very much and happy pedalling.

Please contact secretary.biketas@gmail.com or president.biketas@gmail.com if you can help.
