Afghan Group Cycling Project - Launceston
Over the two week period from January 16th to 27th the Afghan Friendship Group is running a series of daily bike training sessions at Glen Dhu Primary School.
These are being presented by TBUG committee member Di McHenry The majority of sessions are aimed at women but there are also some mixed sessions for primary school children and a limited number of classes for men.
This is a fantastic initiative and a real opportunity to promote cycling participation in the Afghan migrant community.
There are three sessions every day each running for about 90 mins. The men’s sessions are only available during week one.
Volunteers are needed to assist with each session. The main job would be to simply help and encourage the participants with their bikes. If you can help for a few hours it could really make a difference.
Female volunteers are needed for the women’s sessions and males for the men’s sessions. I understand that the primary school ages and the men’s classes are comfortable with either male of female volunteers.
Please help out if you can. It could potentially make a great contribution to not only this refugee community to help them feel part of Launceston community but also promote a stronger cycling culture in our town.
