Are you enrolled to vote?

This year all Tasmanian local government Councils are going up for election at the one time.  And all current councillor and alderman positions are up for re-election.  In six Councils, the number of councillors or aldermen to be elected has been reduced.

As so much of the support and decisionmaking for bike infrastructure takes place at this level of government, it is important that we elect as many pro-bike riding candidates as possible.

The election will take place from 10am on Tues 14 October to 28 October 2014.

Residents who are already enrolled with the Australian Electoral Office for State and Federal elections are thereby already enrolled for the Council election.

People who may need to take action to enrol include:

a) recent arrivals from other Australian States, newly arrived residents who are Australian Citizens, residents who have recently moved to another municipal area

- you should enrol or re-enrol for the Tasmanian House of Assembly electoral roll, contact the Australian Electoral Office

b) students (for example) who are not Australian Citizens but who are residing in the municipal area

- you should complete a Local Government Elections - Enrolment Form  (Part A)

- to be enrolled under these special provisions for the 2014 Local Government elections you need to ensure that the General Manager for the Council in which you are enrolling has your correctly completed enrolment form before 6pm Thursday 18 September 2014.

  • own or occupy land in a municipal area different from where you are enrolled on the state electoral roll, or
  • are the nominated representative of a corporate body which owns or occupies land in the municipal area.
