Forum in Launceston, 9 March
Tamar BUG's major event this year is a public forum entitled “We’re in this together: making roads safer for all users” . This is on Thursday, March 9
from 7:00 pm at the Reception Centre at the Launceston Town Hall.
The key note speaker will be Professor Paul Salmon from the University of the Sunshine Coast. He will present his findings from 15 years of research into the interactions between cyclists and other road users as well as the impact of road design on road user behaviour and safety. Paul will also discuss situation awareness and perception and how can factors such as inattention that lead to injury and crashes be tackled.
We are hoping to attract a wide audience and have secured the support of City of Launceston, Launceston Toyota and are currently speaking to the RACT, motor cycle groups and Road Safety Advisory Council. We hope to generate some serious discussion on how best to promote greater sensitivity and awareness on the part of all road users in Tasmania. Clearly this is a major key to encourage more people to ride bikes.
I hope you are able to attend this event. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me on 0419 107892. Also let me know if you have any further comments and/or questions.
