Statement from Tim - “Bicycle Tasmania has become much more widely known among the local cycling community in the last year through the development of our website which has become the premier source of cycling information within the State. Andrew Heard our webmaster has put many hours of work in developing the site, the relevance of which to all cyclists has been exhibited by the large and constant increase in hits. The next stage, which will fulfil a need for local and interstate cycle tourists, is to gradually extend the Rides pages with maps and information on local accommodation. As Tasmania attracts a large number of cycle tourists from Australia and around the world the provision of relevant information will assist in increasing the number of visitors who cycle while in the State. The most important news this year is that within a couple of months Bicycle Tasmania will be obtaining public liability insurance that will enable us to be much more pro-active in running our own events and working in conjunction with CyclingSouth and other cycling organisations. The new insurance will also enable us to offer our members a more competitive personal accident insurance. Both these advantages present exciting challenges for the BT Executive as it will provide a stimulus for an increase in membership and cycle promotion events.” 6.2 Melissa Smith, Bicycle Australia (email) – enquiry on Hobart cafes 7 Business Arising 7.1 Treasurers Report Kate reported closing balance to date was $1405.56. 7.2 PayPal ACTION Kate: open account. 7.3 PO Box ACTION Kate/ Andrew: fill in 2nd form, open new PO Box. 7.4 Police Liaison - Tim Made contact with Sergeant David Sinclair (taken over from David Paton) – “link between police and cycling community. Is on the State Bicycle Advisory Committee and we agreed that if (as looks likely) there is a broader representation of stakeholders, which will of course involve BT, then that is the forum to discuss any issues between cyclists and the police. He was not quite sure exactly what mechanisms within the force might be appropriate but was quite concerned about the examples of the police acting incorrectly that have occurred recently. He seemed quite knowledgeable on the road rules relating to bikes and seemed cooperative and easy to work with.” Tim doesn’t think anything will happen quickly via SBAC. ACTION Tim: alternative? 7.5 Cycling 25 Email from Timothy Cox to Tim Stredwick regards C25 Launch: “Work out something on the patron front, Tim, and let me know what I can do. Was won by Bridgewater Vic Pimlott “Kate has played a pivotal role in the ongoing success of Bicycle Tasmania for the last six years. After moving here from interstate she immediately accepted the position of Membership Secretary at a time when the committee had lost their vision and drive. She quickly took on the additional role of Treasurer and spent her first few years sorting out the books from the patchy records of previous unaudited years. Now six years later, when issues of insurance and public liability were sapping the BT committee of their drive, and distracting their vision, Kate has sorted out the insurance, coming up with a package that will be beneficial to existing members, be attractive in gaining new members, and allow BT to once again provide cycling events for the cycling public. Kate initiated the Tour de Femme which is one of the most important Bike Week events, always attracting a good turn up and has been involved in the organising and sourcing of sponsorship for the last three years. Kate in deeply involved with a range of other organisations on a volunteer basis including the Tasmanian Bicycle Council, Womensport and Recreation Tasmania, and the RACT Board. In addition to being the club auditor. The impressive thing about Kate is that she’s always there, if not in person, then behind the scenes. The work is always done; there’s always a treasurers report at every meeting; nothing seems too much trouble. And all this at a time when she has a huge professional work load as director of a government department, and is regularly commuting to Sydney. Kate has given a great amount to the Tasmanian cycling community and deserves recognition for her efforts.” Clips Award (again) 22nd March at Kingborough Council (didn’t have plaque engraved before) by Tim. 9.2 Ad in Police Association Magazine Police Association enquiring whether we are interested in putting an ad (similar to the one in the Sunday Tas Bike Week promotional edition) in their newsletter. Goes to 6500 past and present police officers cost $270. Meeting decided wasn’t very good value for money. 9.3 Anonymous Donator Seeks Bicycle Advocacy Groups – Tim “worldcarfree.net have been approached by an anonymous supporter who wishes to donate approx. US$5,000 each to ten bicycle advocacy organisations, anywhere in the world. The donor's interest is in supporting effective groups promoting every-day cycling. They received a substantial donation from this individual in 2003, so they know that this is a genuine offer. If your organisation is interested in being considered for such a donation… by April 15.” Wayne/ Richard suggested making any link to worldcarfree low key.
