We can just put our details on the updated membership form. Can you please see what everyone thinks of that alternative? As a check, we'll just ask direct deposit people to send a hard copy of their transaction report that the bank gives them, and I can match that up to the bank statements. 7.3 Clips and Cadence Awards (follow-up) – Tim 7.4 Tim Cox - Patron (follow-up) discussion - various Richard – “I think it is a good idea, having someone with a high public media profile. Any issues that arise would get an immediate airing, and long term projects such as the Cycle Instead program, the Glenorchy Bike Park, the Intercity Cycleway, would be continually referred to on slow news days. Basically it is the cheapest advertising, cycling is ever going to receive.” Kate – “I understand the patron is invited to events of a club and carries out a sort of passive (vs in your face) advocacy on behalf of the club. I used to be involved in the Soropomists ages ago and that's what our patron did. She didn't come to our regular meetings but did come to special events that we ran, and also spread the word about who we were and what we did in her own 'circles'.” 7.5 Anonymous Donator Seeks Bicycle Advocacy Groups – Tim email from Tim to worldcarfree.net:- Bicycle Tasmania is the State bicycle advocacy organisation. We are a small but vibrant group of dedicated cyclists battling apathy from State bureaucracy and a road culture that generally doesn’t consider cyclists to be legitimate road users. Our limited financial resources restrict our actions but within our relatively small community it is easy to get a powerful message across persuading ordinary people to do ordinary things on ordinary bikes. Successes include a submission to the State Government, resulting in a major cycle commuting incentive program that has raised the profile of utility cycling tremendously. Our website has developed to become the leading source of cycling information in the State and the establishment of a regular cycling talkback on primetime radio has taken a positive cycling message to new places. The US$5000 (AU$7000) donation would fund an innovative eduction campaign “The Bicycle – Its Time Has Come” to instigate a fundamental change in the road culture by both empowering cyclists and educating motorists to respect cyclists on the road. The campaign would consist of adverts on the rear of buses in major urban areas, coordinated with leaflets, stickers, CD ROMS and Power Point slide shows. Approx AU$3000. To facilitate this we would purchase digital camera, laptop computer, data projector and screen, which in numerous ways would also be invaluable long term assets for our organisation. Approx AU$3000. BT promotes itself as being “for all cyclists”. We would make this a reality by organising a workshop to which every cycling interest, from shops to transport authorities from racing to recreational groups are represented. The aim would be to unite the local cycling community and form a close cooperative working relationship to fulfil the huge potential that the bicycle offers for the health of individuals, the community and the local and global environment. Approx AU$1000. 7.6 Insurance Update – Kate 8 Committee and Other Reports 8.1 Brighton BUG 8.2 Kingborough BUG – Richard Highlights from 24 March 2004 – 1) Richard Nichols has accepted the position of Secretary 2) Sports Centre via Gormley Dve, funds of $100,000 maybe available 3) cleaning of the Channel Hwy Bike Lanes - Greg Clausen to clean but DIER responsible. 8.3 Clarence BUG - Ruth 8.4 Glenorchy BUG - Reg 8.5 Hobart BUG - Ambrose 8.6 CyclingSouth 8.7 Web Site – Andrew total hits for month:1616 (last month:1251). 9 New business 9.1 Bike Racks at Sandy Bay Coles Kate – “When Coles fixed up their Sandy Bay store they put some great bike racks near the front (much better than the ones at Woollies/Purity Sandy Bay), where there had previously been none, and I've always noticed lots of cycle tourists going there to shop. Do you think we should write a letter to them thanking them for their initiative? They also put senior car park spaces near the front too, and there is now a lift to the basement car park. It's all very swish! I'm happy to write the letter myself if you think it's appropriate.” 9.2 AdoptAHighway Report - Andrew Occurred on Sunday 21st March, Channel Hwy/ Bonnet Hill. 8 people came along incl. two from SCTC. 9.3 Clarence Expo Report - Andrew
