Still to contact insurance broker that ATTA use (maybe for next year instead of Cycling Australia). (Andrew had also suggested investigating possible links with Bike Queensland which have very good fees/ benefits). 8.3 Rides Calendar Tim asked for feedback on Rides Calendar. There was good interest expressed to Tim at the Tour de Femme. New members are signing up purely for Rides Calendar. There seems to be interest in longer rides. ACTION members: need suggestions for monthly rides after June. 8.4 Adopt-A-Highway Andrew had contacted and organised for replacement Adopt-A-Highway sign. About 8 members cleaned up the section of road between the Shot Tower and Bonnet Hill on “Cleanup Australia Day” – 6th March. 9 Committee and Other Reports 9.1 Kingborough BUG Richard reported the KBug has met 3 times over the last month and a half, to thrash out and prioritise the Kingborough Bicycle Plan. There is still a lot of work to be done but we feel that the basics are in place. The Hobart MTB Park as it will be known, is going ahead in leaps and bounds. There is a lot of interest in the community, and many cyclists have offered their help already in constructing tracks etc. I will give a more detailed synopsis for the next meeting. The BikeWeek Treasure Hunt was considered a success with 30 people participating. 9.2 Hobart BUG Ambrose reported Hobart Bicycle Plan Advisory Committee - Special Meeting - 28th February, 2005 - 2.00pm. Items discussed BIKE WEEK PROGRAM - The Big Bike Breakfast and the Family Fun Day would be activities to be organised jointly with other Councils but that the Hobart Rivulet Ride is an activity that is to be solely organised by the Hobart Bicycle Advisory Committee; HOBART RIVULET RIDE - Ken White will be the leader; FAMILY FUN DAY - Bicycle Tas will be organising events for children etc. on the car park and the adjacent lawn area. Hobart City Council is funding complete Bike Breakfast to $1000 including a tent etc. 9.3 CyclingSouth There will be some Adult Rider courses in April (and maybe March). ACTION Tim: get Adult Rider course dates from Rowan for BT website. 9.4 Web Site Andrew reported total web site hits for month: 5,390 per day: 200 (February 6,008 December 3,877 November 4,400). 9.5 Membership David reported 10 total (single + family) financial members with 2 resignations. David explained the rebate process and payment logic if joining at other times of the year: The Bicycle Tasmania (BT) membership year and insurance coverage runs from 1 Jan thru to 31 Dec of each year. If you join BT in Nov, Dec of year X, or Jan or Feb of year X+1, you pay the BT standard annual fee, and your membership and insurance expires on Dec 31 of year X+1. If you join BT in Feb through to Oct of year X, you pay the BT concession annual fee, and your membership and insurance expires on 31 Dec of year X. For membership renewals (normally paid before the end of the year) you pay the standard BT annual fee, which extends your membership and insurance for another year. Meeting decided corporate membership doesn’t include insurance benefits. People such as David Ross will need to have single membership for insurance. Tim thanked David, Stuart, Andrew for the work in getting the renewal forms organised and sent. 9.6 Banner Andrew reported that Badger pricing was with Apple Mac drawing packages that weren’t readily available. Tim would still like the banner to proceed, but will be too late for BikeWeek. ACTION Wayne: follow-up Launceston contact on making stickers. 10 New business 10.1 BFA News David reported on BFA email – “Not the National Strategy - On 3rd and 4th March the ABC met to workshop a preliminary draft of a replacement for “Australia Cycling: the National Strategy 1999- 2004”... The strategy that is likely to emerge would be better regarded as an “ABC strategy” rather than a “national strategy”... The BFA Committee firmly believes the federal government should show leadership and develop a genuine strategy for cycling throughout Australia.” ACTION Tim: email BFA for membership invoice. ACTION Tim: forward BFA email to Wayne for Spoke. ACTION Wayne: put BFA conference details in Spoke. 10.2 Battery Point Cycle Route David reported on newly proposed Hobart City Council bike route. $12K to be used to improve/add signage, and improve grates. 10.3 Cycling Sustainability Greg talked about Cycling Sustainability and range of issues. Peak Oil. Engaging “fringe” cyclists. Idea of reducing membership fee through major sponsor donation eg. Aurora. Pointed out that BikeWeek participant numbers may be down as $10 fee too high. 10.4 New Bike Store – BiKE RiDE Tim noted commuter pamphlet gives “hot tip” as BT membership. Thanks BiKE RiDE. They are offering 10% discount card on non-sale items. ACTION Tim: organise (possibly name change) Easier Than You Think pamphlet for BiKE RiDE rack. 11 Meeting Finished At 7.30pm. 12 Next Meeting Will be held at the Environment Centre, 102 Bathurst Street at 5.30pm on Thursday 21st April. 13 Items Not Discussed 13.1
