All are welcome. The KBug has not held a meeting since last month as Greg Clauscen is on holidays. The ATTA off road mtb Time Trials proposed for Peter Murrell Reserve in Blackmans Bay, looks all set to go.We are just waiting for final permission from State Parks &Wildlife, but it looks like a given. The Time Trials will be run @ 6:30 pm on the last Tuesday of each month until September. The course will be sign posted with small reflective signs and the course is 6 km long, you will have the choice of 1 or 2 rounds. The surface ranges from sand to rock and has some nice little downhills and only one major climb. ATTA will charge a small fee to cover insurance, but the TT is available to be entered by anyone, just make sure you have good lights, you will need them. The Mt Wellington Trust is in the process of reviewing their Bike Strategy and it is proposed that a new track is to be built specifically for cyclists from Shoobridge Bend to Junction Cabin running along the 650mt contour line. From Junction Cabin the track will continue to the MTB Park in Glenorchy. This will satisfy the needs of cyclists who use to use the Lenah Valley Track, and also make Old Farm Rd available for Downhill riding. As Myrtle Gully Track runs parrallel to Old Farm Rd, it is proposed that the road will be signposted for use by cyclists. This makes sense as it is rarely used by walkers as it is too steep and Myrtle Gully Track is much easier and a prettier walk. I would be interested to know how we are progressing with insurance for non-members who wish to participate in any BT rides or functions. Unless people can "feel the water" so to speak, we are not going to increase membership.” 9.2 Hobart BUG Ambrose reported – new Sandy Bay bike lane proposal put to DIER 7th April; Roads to Recovery Funding may be used for Hobart Rivulet Track along Boags land or cantilever section; various other items. ACTION Ambrose: report back on Hobart Rivulet Track funding. There was discussion on public access across CSIRO land. Wayne commented some Melbourne bike crossing lights are same as what Rowan is proposing at Evan St. On 5th May 3.30pm starting from Town Hall there will be a ride looking at Brooker Hwy to Lenah Valley route. 9.3 CyclingSouth Ambrose presented report from Rowan Burns. 9.4 Web Site Andrew reported total web site hits for month: 6,860 per day: 35 (March 5,390 February 6,008 December 3,877). 9.5 Membership David reported 53 total (single + family) financial members (18 single, 5 single concession, 30 family, 0 family concession); 4 to 5 resignations. David noted current membership cards are larger than credit card size. ACTION David: future membership cards to be credit card size. 9.6 Salamanca 6 Hour Tim reported on the success of the event. 9.7 Rides Calendar 10 New business 10.1 Riding More Than 2 Abreast It’s illegal and it’s giving the law-abiding cyclists a bad reputation. Much discussion. ACTION Tim: follow-up Sgt. Sinclair (Tasmania Police) regards riding more than 2 abreast. ACTION Tim: write letter to Mercury editor on this riding more than 2 abreast. ACTION Tim: reply to Tony Collins, Noosa Heads on riding more than 2 abreast. 10.2 Give Cyclists a Metre t-shirts Andrew reported Margaret Day will be in Hobart late May to mid June and wonders if BT is interested in a few “Give Cyclists a Metre t- shirts”? She could bring some with her. They are Aust cotton, $25 each and no postage if she brings them. There are 4 Med, 4 Large and 10 XL. Orange, red , yellow and bone. Message is on back and front. David XL red, Tony L red. ACTION Andrew: get image from Margaret up onto web. ACTION Andrew: to collate orders. 10.3 “Bicycle Storage Boxes” Paper Much discussion. Most thought name was silly and misleading. Wayne – tends to validate cyclists in the eyes of motorists. Need to put money aside for publicising. ACTION Tim: reply to Howard on “Bicycle Storage Boxes” paper. 10.4 Public Slide Show Tim reported idea of a slide show by Pete Berechree of his cycling travels through China and Tibet as BT fundraiser. ACTION Andrew: send separate email to members with link to latest Spoke (PDF file on web site) when it becomes available; only include as link on web site 2 months after available to members. 10.9 Bicycle Tasmania Stickers David reported current stickers are too long by about 25mm/ must be folded to fit in standard envelope. Should simplify the sticker – too wordy, too hard to read at a distance, simplify the message. Tim reported still had around 1/3 of original 500 stickers. ACTION all members: suggestions for new & improved stickers. ACTION Andrew: get quote from Badger on 500 current stickers. 10.10 Membership Cards David showed the latest color/ laminated membership cards.
