Women on Wheels 2017
This is the seventeenth Women on Wheels ride conducted by Bicycle Network Tasmania (it was formerly known as Kate Tamayo's Tour de Femme). Kate Tamayo was a well respected previous president of Bicycle Tasmania and an enthusiastic campaigner for encouraging women to experience the joy of riding.
Women on Wheels is a relaxed 16.2km ride around Bellerive and the Clarence Foreshore Trail, a friendly social event for women of all ages. Note - Girls under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
The route is a mixture of offroad bike paths and quiet roads, and is an excellent opportunity for women who haven't ridden on the road before to give it a go in a supportive environment. The route will be signed to minimise the risk of getting lost en route.
Our friends at Ken Self Cycles will be there to offer a free pre-ride bike check, to help make sure cobwebs, squeaks and flat tyres are sorted before we head out.
Clarence Council will be providing free sandwiches and refreshments after the ride :)
There will be water available at the park - so don't forget to bring your water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
This social ride: 2-A-16. A leisurely pace, on shared pathways and quiet roads, mostly flat, with a hill at Tranmere. Your ride leader is Suzy Riley. Here's a map of the route.
We'll meet at 10am - at the BBQ shelter (near the childrens playground) at the Eastern end of Salacia Avenue (33 Salacia Ave), off Correa Street, for registrations and bike checks.
The ride starts at 10.30am.
Cost: $15 (with a discount rate of $10 for Bicycle Network members and u/18s). What a bargain, for an enjoyable ride and lunch!
Register and pay on the day.
Please RSVP at the bottom of this page so that we can estimate numbers for catering etc.
You can find more information about Bicycle Network Tasmania's Social Rides Program here, including an explanation of the ride descriptor codes.
Bicycle Network Tasmania makes every effort to ensure our organised rides are safe, however participants are advised to ensure they have insurance against accidents. The best option is to become a member of Bicycle Network. This ensures you have excellent year-round 24/7 cover against both Personal Injury and Third Party Personal/Property damage whilst riding your bike.
Please note - if there are any riders under 16 years old, the adult with them will take primary responsibility for their safety on the ride.
