Bicycle Network busy in Hobart over the New Year
The southern BUG committee and heaps of fantastic volunteers were out looking after bike riders over the busy end of year period. We provided free, secure bike valet parking all day, every day, at the Taste of Tasmania, which spans 7 days. Lots of riders came down, some several times a day, taking advantage of the cheapest and most hasslefree way to access the Taste - by bike of course!
On the busy opening day of the Taste, we parked 97 bikes.
Our enthusiastic volunteers also provided the same service for riders at the New Year's Day Violent Femmes/Augie March concert at MONA. This was the first time we have provided bike valet parking at two locations on the one day, we now know what equipment and supplies we need to expand to make this easier next time.
Part of the fun of bike parking is checking out the bikes, there are always some fascinating sights. From the shiny brand new to the backyard beauties... A continuing trend we see is the increase in electric bikes, both factory built and conversions, like this Giant.
And how about this idea for a surprisingly cheap and effective rear camera?
We also initiated a new Ride the Peloton Train to the Taste ride, in association with the Taste of Tasmania, on New Year's Day. See our separate story about this.
