Bonnet Hill Bike Lane Petition

The Bonnet Hill Community Association, in collaboration with the Kingborough Bike Advisory Group, are petitioning the State Government for funds to provide a safer, wider shoulder for bicycles on the uphill sections of the Channel highway between Proctors Rd, Bonnet Hill and Baringa Rd, Taroona.

The petition calls the government's attention to "the escalating dangers encountered by cyclists and vehicle users when travelling on of the most popular cycling and tourist routes in Tasmania. This section of the Channel Highway has no option for vehicle overtaking and has extremely poor sight distances. Coupled to this there is minimal side shoulder width and steep slopes into the roadside drains. This adds to the dangers when cycling near the road edge".

We couldn't agree more.
