Cruisy camping tour on Bruny
Ahhh … the simplicity of the camping cycle touring life … waking up & gazing out of the tent in beautiful places … always good for the soul.
Susanna, Justin & Andreas are planning this Bruny Island trip to prepare for a WA cycle tour later in the year. Other camping cycle tour enthusiasts are welcome to join this Bruny trip.
Two options: Friday – Sunday (2 night) and Saturday – Sunday (1 night). The current plan is to park cars in Kettering and catch the Friday 10.00 am ferry, then cycle to North Bruny and camp on private property. On Saturday meet up with those coming across on the Saturday 10.00 am ferry and head for a bush camp south of the neck. The ride plan is an outline, can change depending on group mood. Trip purpose is primarily to make sure everyone has a good time.
The pace will be cruisy, the three of us are rarely in a hurry once we’re on tour and we’re prone to being side-tracked by views, cafes, interesting people and stray animals.
Roads are a mix of black-top and gravel. We may also cycle some distance on easy single-track through the bush. Hybrid bikes, touring bikes and mountain bikes with reasonably wide tyres (say 38mm+) and fairly low gearing are best suited for this ride.
The three of us will all be on “new to us” bikes. Two of the bikes are folding touring bikes.
Enthusiastic newcomers to camping cycle touring are welcome. We’re happy to help with advice, can also help with some gear including racks, pannier bags and camping gear. We may also have a spare bike or two in the garage.
Daily distances around 30-35 km. Max group size 6-8.
Bruny Island ferry is $6 return for bicycles, $33 for cars.
Please book with Andreas by Tuesday 22nd May latest.

Note: the roads on Bruny Island have no "shoulder" and many drivers are tourists unused to Tasmanian road conditions.
