Hobart Candidates Ride

It's local government election time again in October 2018.  We're taking those candidates for Hobart City Council who are interested to learn more about the rider experience in Hobart on a ride.  We'll show them some of the highs and lows of riding in Hobart, and discuss a few bicycle infrastructure projects that we would like their support for.

Starting at the Bicycle Network office at 210 Collins Street, we'll roll down quiet Collins St and then join the InterCityCycleway.  We'll meander along the shared path on Castray Esplanade and through the streets of Battery Point.  We'll descend to Marieville Esplanade and discover the different types of bikelanes on Sandy Bay Rd.  At Lower Sandy Bay we'll stop for a chat and perhaps coffee, and then head back to town.

Candidates will see for themselves some of the gaps in the Hobart bicycle network and get the real riders' perspective.  Experienced local riders who are willing to help our candidates with on-road skills and support are welcome to join in.  This is an easy 13km ride, no pressure, with experienced riders assisting less confident ones.  Some e-bikes will be sourced for candidates who would prefer one.

Meet at Bicycle Network, 210 Collins Street, Hobart at 10:45am, to commence the ride at 11:00am.  We'll be back at about 1pm.

You can find more information about Bicycle Network Tasmania's Social Rides Program here, including an explanation of the ride descriptor codes.

Our fortnightly In The Loop email newsletter gives a heads'up on scheduled rides.  You can register here if you don't already receive In The Loop - make sure you tick: "Advocacy - campaigns and programs".

Bicycle Network Tasmania makes every effort to ensure our organised rides are safe, however participants are advised to ensure they have insurance against accidents. The best option is to become a member of Bicycle Network.  This ensures you have excellent year-round 24/7 cover against both Personal Injury and Third Party Personal/Property damage whilst riding your bike.

Please note - if there are any riders under 16 years old, the adult with them will take primary responsibility for their safety on the ride.
