Hobart Councillors' Ride 2019

Last year we took the candidates for Hobart City Council's election on a ride around town.  Let's make it an annual event!

We're taking those Councillors (and Aldermen) on Hobart City Council who are interested to learn more about the rider experience on a ride.   We'll visit some of the highs and lows of riding in Hobart, and discuss a few bicycle infrastructure projects that would help make Hobart's roads safer for all users.

Starting at the Bicycle Network office at 210 Collins Street, we'll roll along quiet Collins St and down to the popular InterCityCycleway.  We'll enjoy some newly built paths and bridges for bikes (hurrah!) and then check out some projects we'd like to promote.

We'll stop for a chat over coffee, and then head back to our starting point.

Councillors will see for themselves some of the features and the gaps in the Hobart bicycle network and get the real rider's perspective.  Experienced local riders who are willing to help our candidates with on-road skills and support are welcome to join in.

This is an easy and short ride (only 6.5km at this stage), no pressure, with experienced riders assisting less confident ones.  Some e-bikes will be sourced for Councillors who would prefer one.

Meet at Bicycle Network, 210 Collins Street, Hobart at 10:45am, to commence the ride at 11:00am.  We'll be back at about 1pm.

Map of the route.

This is a fair weather ride - we'll shift to another date if the weather doesn't cooperate.  RSVP to get a heads' up for any changes.

You can find more information about Bicycle Network Tasmania's Social Rides Program here, including an explanation of the ride descriptor codes.  Register here to get a regular alert by email.

Our fortnightly In The Loop email newsletter gives a heads'up on scheduled rides.  You can register here if you don't already receive In The Loop - make sure you tick: "Advocacy - campaigns and programs".

Bicycle Network Tasmania makes every effort to ensure our organised rides are safe, however participants are advised to ensure they have insurance against accidents. The best option is to become a member of Bicycle Network.  This ensures you have excellent year-round 24/7 cover against both Personal Injury and Third Party Personal/Property damage whilst riding your bike.

Please note - if there are any riders under 16 years old, the adult with them will take primary responsibility for their safety on the ride.
