In construction: Morrison St shared pathway
It's been a long time coming, but a short extension of the Inter City Cycleway along Morrison St is finally under construction. This is one of Hobart City Council's Inner City Action Plan projects.
This stretch of the shared pathway is now supported by changes to Franklin St which are linked with the development of the new pier. At the junction of Morrison St and Franklin St, traffic will be one way (out) from Franklin St, and the crossover will be raised to indicate priority for pedestrians and riders on the shared pathway.
While these works are underway, cyclists heading toward Salamanca will have to divert via Franklin St. There will be a short period of confusion and inconvenience, but we'll get a good result on June 5 (according to the sign).
For the next section of this project (between Brooke St and Castray Esplanade) to proceed, we need the local retailers to recognise that improving the pathway here will be a benefit to them as well as the local community.
