A pleasant scenic ride to the great lookout on Table Cape, then around Tollymore Road, and back to Wynyard.
The magnificent plateau of Table Cape is by far Wynyard's most remarkable natural wonder. Sitting at 180 metres high, 'The Cape' dominates the Wynyard coastline and offers spectacular views of Tasmania's coast and agricultural farmlands. From the viewing platform, on a clear day, you can see
- Three Hummock Island, some 90K NW of The Nut
- George Town's Low Head
- the Asbestos Range, over 175 kilometres away.
Take a short stroll along the cliff-top walking track to the Table Cape Lighthouse, the only operating lighthouse open for tours in mainland Tasmania.
a) miss the final climb to the top and head directly along Tollymore Road;
b) extend with a pathway loop via the lighthouse;
c) miss Tollymore Road;
d) any sensible combination of the above.
For the longest option, a total of 26km, and total climbing 397m.
Meeting: at the East Wynyard Foreshore car park (east of the tourist park entry), ready to ride at 11am.
Your ride leader is Richard Muir-Wilson, who has invited the group back to his place after the ride, for a BYO lunch.
