Update: Sept 5, 2014
The new section of the path has been officially opened by the Minister for Infrastructure, Rene Hidding. This new section required substantial works to stabilise the bank and build up a retaining wall.
The path replaces the narrow, littered, rocky informal path that riders created over the years because this is the most sensible way to get from the Tasman bridge to a variety of attractors on the inner eastern shore.
Thanks in particular to Alderman Sharyn von Bertouch (second from the left in the picture below), who chairs the Clarence Bike Steering Committee, for her work behind the scenes in improving conditions for residents and visitors to Clarence.
Background
The need for improvements on this path were clear from the tracks that riders have made over the years. Cutting along the edge of the highway means avoiding the big hill down into Rosny and the traffic generated by the Clarence sporting facilities on Riawena Road.
