The Pipeline at Night

Something different - experience the Pipeline Track in the dark, from Ferntree to Tin Cabin and back. We'll take a break at Tin Cabin to light a fire, warm up and have some yummy nibbles.

Since the ride is at night and the track is unlit, it is necessary to have good lights with a suitable battery life (approx. 2.5-3 hours).  We will also be riding supportively (e.g. in pairs to share the light on the path).

Dress appropriately for the weather, and bring an extra layer (or two).  Bring a drink and snacks to stay energised for a 3-4hr ride.

Riders:  All welcome. A social ride where the group will ride together to support newer riders.

Bring:

  • good front and rear lights for your bike
  • a torch for when we arrive at the cabin
  • snacks and warm drink as we light a fire at the Tin Cabin (Matt will provide hot coffee, hot choc and tea on site, so bring some sweet snacks to share)
  • water
  • warm clothes!
  • a good windproof layer for the return downhill leg.

The route: this is a gentle uphill ride along unsealed paths, all offroad, with a steady downhill run on the return leg.  Suits hybrids and mountain bikes.  It is safe, with some gentle gradients and will last about three and a half hours.   2-B-22.  Map of the ride.

Meet: in the carpark of the Ferntree Tavern 30 minutes before the ride start time - of 7.00pm.

Bicycle Network Tasmania makes every effort to ensure our organised rides are safe, however participants are advised to ensure they have insurance against accidents. The best option is to become a member of Bicycle Network.  This ensures you have excellent year-round 24/7 cover against both Personal Injury and Third Party Personal/Property damage whilst riding your bike.

Please note - if there are any riders under 16 years old, the adult with them will take primary responsibility for their safety on the ride.
