Update on Hobart Rivulet Track
During September and October 2014, the Council released for public exhibition some draft concept plans to seal the Hobart Rivulet Park track. The proposal generated significant community interest with divergent views expressed during the consultation.
In March 2015 nine stakeholder groups, including Bicycle Network Tasmania, were invited to attend a facilitated on-site workshop. There was general agreement that construction of the lower Molle Street to McKellar Street section of the park with a concrete shared use path should proceed. However there was less support for construction of a single concrete shared path beyond Gore Street, and a strong preference expressed for the maintenance of a single gravel shared use path beyond MacFarlane Street.
The results of the workshop are presented in the consultant report Hobart Rivulet Park Shared Use Path Stakeholder Consultation – Stage 2 (April 2015).
The Council has decided to proceed at this stage with the construction of the Molle Street – McKellar Street section as a single, three metre wide concrete shared use track that follows the current track alignment. Council says: Upon its completion, evaluation of the use of the new path will be undertaken to inform the design of the track throughout the remainder of the Hobart Rivulet Park.
