Women on Wheels 2018
This is the eighteenth Women on Wheels ride conducted by Bicycle Network Tasmania. The ride was formerly known as Kate Tamayo's Tour de Femme. Kate Tamayo was a well respected president of Bicycle Tasmania and an enthusiastic campaigner for encouraging women to experience the joy of riding.
Women on Wheels is a relaxed 20km ride around Bellerive and the Clarence Foreshore Trail, a friendly social event for women of all ages. Note - Girls under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.
The route is a mixture of offroad bike paths and quiet roads, and is an excellent opportunity for women who haven't ridden on the road before to give it a go in a supportive environment. The route will be signed to minimise the risk of getting lost en route.
Our friends at Ken Self Cycles will be there to offer a free pre-ride bike check, to help make sure cobwebs, squeaks and flat tyres are sorted before we head out.
There will be water available at the park - so don't forget to bring your water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.
The ride coordinator is Dorothy McCartney and your ride leader is Suzy Riley.
Clarence Council will be providing free sandwiches and refreshments after the ride.
Here's a map of the route.
Cost: $20 (with a discount rate of $10 for Bicycle Network members). What a bargain, for an enjoyable ride and lunch!
We'll meet at 10am - at the BBQ shelter (near the childrens playground) at the Eastern end of Salacia Avenue (33 Salacia Ave), off Correa Street, for registrations and bike checks.
The ride starts at 10.30am.
...and for your interest:
NB - if you think you might need a hand getting your legs ready for WoW, we have a couple of even easier rides available in the weeks leading up to Bike Week. Check our webpage for details of these!
